COMET: An Integrated Data Platform To Help Kids

Original Posting 06.05.19

On April, 27 2019 Jeff Kaczorowski, MD gave a presentation about leveraging data to improve the outcomes for children's initiatives at the Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting (PAC) in Baltimore, MD. The PAS meeting is the leading event for academic pediatrics and research, collaborating with partners that include the American Pediatrics Society (APS) and the Society for Pediatrics Research (SPR). This presentation included the COMET system and the work we are doing in our common mission to improve the health and well-being of children. Dr. Kaczorowski is a Professor and Vice Chair for Community and Government Relations at the University Of Rochester Department Of Pediatrics, and the Founding Director of The Children's Agenda. (Please note that Dr. Kaczorowski has no financial investment in the COMET system.)

Key Points:

    • Integrated Data Platforms like COMET can be used to share data across the education and human service sectors and with parents.
    • In our community, Health data interfaces and sharing have been lagging and are now just beginning to be incorporated. There is still much work to do to improve sharing and integration with health data.
    • Integrated Data Platforms like COMET can be used to address individual social needs and improve outcomes.
    • Integrated Data Platforms like COMET can provide data to help create policy change to address social determinants/factors of health.
